Mrs. Stella Djarrah Bassey was born on the 28th of March 1933 in Eket, Akwa Ibom State. She had an inspiring career in Broadcasting with Nigeria Broadcasting Corporation NBC, FRCN and VON. From a Junior Presentation Assistant, on scale ‘E’ in December 1960, she rose and retired as a Deputy Director (Programmes), with VON in1993 on attaining the statutory age of 60 years.
The most interesting aspect of this dogged woman of note was her flair for OUTSIDE B’CAST COMMENTARIES, an area viewed as an exclusive preserve of the men.
When the Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa spoke to President Kennedy by telephone via satellite, she was on commentaries.
Her other exploits include Pandit Nehru’s State visit to Nigeria and Nigeria’s Independent Anniversary Celebrations.
Mrs. Bassey has among other qualifications a degree from London School of Economics and Political Science, London University in 1957.
